Gun Safety and Range Protocol

The Big 4 Safety Rules-

  • ALWAYS treat your firearm as if it is loaded
  • ALWAYS point your firearm down range
  • ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
  • ALWAYS know your target and what is in front and beyond it.

The below safety rules and policies generally apply at most gun ranges. Specific policies may vary among ranges and must be reviewed and understood prior to entering or shooting. For specific range rules and policies, follow the links below, check the range website or ask when at an unfamiliar range. Please review the specific rules for each range.

Outdoor-

CLEAR CREEK GUN RANGE - 2381 Gun Range Rd. League City, Texas 77573

TEXAS CITY GUN RANGE - 4000 Bay Street Texas City, Texas 77590

Indoor-

BEST SHOT RANGE - 4425 FM 2351 #D Friendswood, TX 77546

SHOOT POINT BLANK RANGE - 350 E Nasa Pkwy Webster, TX 77598

Entering the Range:

·You may wear a holster. However, you most likely will not be permitted to draw from the holster while inside the range unless you're law enforcement.

-Firearms must be unloaded, with the magazine removed and the chamber cleared before entering the range.

-You can carry your firearm from your car to the range to practice shooting and attend classes, but weapons  must either be holstered or in a bag/case, not a pocket.

-Before approaching the counter, have your cleared firearm, bags and cases ready to be checked or on the designated counter.

-Firearms must remain unloaded until you reach the firing line and ready to shoot.

-If the range is declared “Clear”, you may enter the range, without your firearm. You can enter the range with  your unloaded firearm once the range is declared, “Hot”.

On the Range:

-You must follow all of the rangemaster's and instructors’ directions and announcements of "Range is Hot" and "Cease Fire".

-Never proceed beyond the firing line until the rangemaster has announced that the range is “Safe” and going down range is cleared.

-When the rangemaster calls for a “Cease Fire”.  Secure your firearm by removing the magazine, locking the slide back and clearing the chamber. Place your magazines and secured firearm on the table, pointing down-range with the cleared chamber facing up. Once your firearm is cleared, step away from the firing line.

-Before you step off the firing line, make sure to grab your personal items. Do not take your firearm away from the firing line.

-Range officers will inspect the firing line to ensure all firearms are secure.

-Once the firing line is declared “Safe”, do not step up to the firing for any reason. If you forget to grab something, leave it.

-Firearms must be pointed down range at all times, even when cleared.

-Keep the slide open and magazine removed until the range is declared “Hot” and you are ready to shoot.

-The rangemaster has the authority to evict anyone from the shooting range for any violation of these rules without refund.

-You must wear ear and eye protection at all times inside the range. This  includes all people with you regardless of whether or not they are shooting.

-Do not handle firearms while anyone is down range.

Leaving the Range:

-When leaving the range, your firearm must be unloaded or holstered for LTC holders.
