COURSE DESCRIPTION & SYLLABUS:
We teach three levels of terminal wound ballistics:
1. Basic Level – Instruction encompassing the tactical realities of what stops a human target, basic human anatomy and the interaction of a projectile, the differences between handgun and rifle projectiles, the different types of handgun bullets and the four characteristics of bullet wounding. This course concentrates on the big picture and understanding general concepts, wound ballistic terms and definitions.
2. Intermediate Level Wound Ballistics - Discusses terminal wound ballistic testing to include testing protocols, media, phases, grading criteria, ballistic ratio, volume of wound index, bullet type summaries, round summaries and ballistic data sheets. This course focuses on specifics of different ammunition and includes results from over seven national level government ballistics tests. Comparison of eight different calibers shot into various media and barriers. The Basic Level course is a prerequisite.
3. Professional Level Wound Ballistics - The most advanced level introduces academics dealing with barrier performance, ammunition testing vs armor products and engineering concepts of fluid dynamics, leading edge pressure waves and pressures on hollow points and fluid transfer, Bernoulli’s principal, the venturi effect, hydraulic jump and velocities required for temporary cavity, cavitation and the effects of twist rate. The Basic and Intermediate Level courses are a prerequisite. This course is available to Military, Government and Law Enforcement only.
All three courses are taught to groups only, not individually.
TRAINING OVERVIEW:
All terminal wound ballistics courses are academic only and taught in a classroom. If during the Intermediate or Professional level courses testing or demonstrations are desired that must be coordinated in advance.
